Show custom activity on the Floor Map

Roam apps can show what someone is working on directly from the Floor Map. Custom activity can include an emoji, title, supporting text, and a colored glow. An app can also turn on Do Not Disturb (DND) while the activity is running.

In a person’s assigned Private Office, an app can display the colored glow and enable DND. Away from that office, the activity may appear as a badge with the person instead; the office glow and DND do not follow them.

Automatic Activity for Coding Agents

Roam already includes integrations that automatically show activity for Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. Enable them in Settings > Integrations to show the agent’s logo and make your Private Office glow while work is active.

Use the External Activity API when you want to bring activity from another app or an internal workflow onto the Floor Map.

Add Activity from an App

Developers can use the External Activity API to:

• Set or update activity for a person.
• Clear the activity when the work finishes.
• Refresh long-running activity so it remains visible.

Activity expires automatically if the app stops refreshing it. The default expiration is 10 minutes, and an app can set an expiration of up to one hour. This prevents an outdated activity from remaining on the map indefinitely.
