What should I do if I’m not receiving notifications?

Roam offers highly configurable and customizable notifications. If you are not receiving notifications, follow these instructions to resolve the issue.

Troubleshooting Desktop Notifications

If you are not receiving desktop notifications, follow these steps:

Check System Notification Settings

  • Ensure that notifications are enabled for the Roam desktop app in your macOS or Windows system settings.
  • macOS: Go to System Settings > Notifications > Roam.
  • Windows: Go to Settings > System > Notifications & actions > Roam.

Disable Focus Mode

  • Roam respects your OS system focus settings and will pause notifications if a focus mode is enabled.
  • macOS: Ensure that a Focus mode (such as Do Not Disturb) is not enabled and preventing notifications. Note that a Focus can be enabled from another device, such as iPhone, and synced to your Mac.
  • Windows: Ensure that Focus Assist is disabled in Settings > System > Focus assist.

Verify Roam Notification Settings

  • Ensure that notifications are enabled for the type of messages you want to receive in Roam Settings > Notifications.
  • Send a test notification from Roam Settings > Notifications > Send Test Notification.

  • Verify that chat-specific notifications are enabled for direct or group chats:
    • Open the chat in AInbox.
    • Click the three dots in the top-right corner and select Notifications.
    • Ensure “Receive Notifications” is enabled.

Troubleshooting Mobile Notifications

If you are not receiving mobile notifications, follow these steps:

Check Device Notification Settings

  • Ensure that notifications are enabled for the Roam mobile app in your iOS or Android device settings.
  • iOS: Go to Settings > Notifications > Roam.
  • Android: Go to Settings > Notifications > App notifications > Roam.

Ensure Desktop App Isn’t Suppressing Mobile Notifications

  • Mobile notifications are suppressed when the Roam desktop app is open and you’re using your computer.
  • If you would like to receive all mobile notifications regardless of your desktop activity, go to Roam Settings > Notifications > Mobile > Send mobile notifications “Immediately, even if I’m active on desktop.”
  • Mobile notifications may be cleared if you read the chat message on another device.

Troubleshooting Notification Sounds

If you are not hearing notification sounds, check the following:

  1. Ensure your computer speakers are unmuted and set to an audible output device and level.
  2. Unmute Roam Output Volume in Settings > Audio > Output Volume.
  3. Verify notification sound settings in Settings > Sounds:
    • Ensure notification sound volume level is unmuted.
    • Confirm that a sound is set for each notification (not set to NONE).
