Integrate Roam with AI assistants, including OpenClaw, Claude, and ChatGPT

Roam can connect your meetings, transcripts, chat messages, people, and calendar to AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, OpenClaw, and other MCP-compatible clients.

Once connected, your assistant can answer questions using the context from your actual Roam.

What You Can Do

Use an AI assistant with Roam to:

  • Summarize meetings and pull details from transcripts
  • Search recent chat messages and group conversations
  • Review decisions, action items, and open questions
  • Prepare morning briefs or weekly digests
  • Ask about project status based on meetings and chats
  • Look up people in your Roam
  • Review upcoming calendar events
  • Send Roam chat messages when the assistant has permission

For example, you could ask:

  • What did we decide about pricing last week?
  • Summarize my meetings from this week and list action items by owner.
  • What has the team said about the launch plan recently?

Claude, ChatGPT, and Other Assistants

Roam supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI assistants to external data sources.

With Roam’s MCP integration, assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and other MCP-compatible clients can use Roam tools to search meetings, read transcripts, browse chats, list users, review calendar events, and send chat messages when enabled.

Some assistants also support Roam’s built-in prompts, such as morning briefs, weekly digests, project status reports, action item reviews, and decision logs.

For setup instructions, see the MCP (AI Assistants) developer documentation.

OpenClaw

OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent that can connect to messaging platforms and tools. With Roam, OpenClaw can work in two ways:

  • Use Roam as a data source, so your agent can search meetings, read transcripts, analyze meeting content, browse chat history, and send Roam messages.
  • Use Roam as a chat surface, so people can message your OpenClaw agent directly from Roam chat.

These options can be used together. For example, an OpenClaw agent can live in Roam chat and answer questions using Roam meetings and messages as context.

For setup instructions, see the OpenClaw developer documentation.

Admin Controls and Access

Your Roam admin may control whether AI assistant and API connections are allowed. Some connections may require admin approval before they can access Roam data.
