Zoom Webinars is the most recognized webinar product in the world. Roam On-Air is the event layer of a Virtual Office Platform — where all-hands meetings, town halls, and hosted events run inside the same environment where your team works every day. This page is an honest comparison: where Zoom Webinars wins, where Roam On-Air wins, and how to decide which is right for you.
Zoom Webinars is a broadcast product. One or more hosts present to an audience. Attendees watch, react, submit questions, and vote in polls. The session ends and everyone exits back to their normal tools. It is a reliable, well-executed version of the classic webinar format — and it carries the weight of Zoom’s brand recognition, meaning attendees already know how to join.
Roam On-Air is an event experience embedded inside a virtual office. The Theater — Roam’s stage environment — has a purpose-built stage, a persistent backstage where speakers coordinate before going live, an audience with Roamoji reactions that grow as more people respond simultaneously, walk-on music when presenters take the stage, and an audience microphone for live attendee participation. On-Air handles the event page, RSVP management, host controls, and post-event reporting. When the all-hands ends, your team is already in the same platform where their next drop-in conversation and group chat are waiting. No tool switch. No separate subscription. No per-event add-on cost.
The practical difference for most remote-first companies: Zoom Webinars is an expensive, separate product bolted on top of Zoom Workplace. On-Air is already included in the Roam platform your team uses daily.
Scale beyond 10,000 attendees. Zoom Webinars supports up to 10,000 attendees on standard tiers; Zoom Events (a higher-tier product) supports 100,000+. Roam On-Air supports up to 10,000 attendees. For massive broadcast events — industry conferences, public company earnings calls, large external customer broadcasts — Zoom’s infrastructure is the proven option.
RTMP streaming to external platforms. Zoom Webinars Plus adds RTMP streaming to YouTube Live, Facebook, and other platforms simultaneously with the webinar. If your events need to run live on your YouTube channel and inside the webinar at the same time, Zoom Webinars Plus delivers that. Roam On-Air does not currently support RTMP; events run within the Roam platform only.
Native polling with real-time results. Zoom Webinars has a mature dedicated polling feature — create polls before the session, launch during the broadcast, and display results to the audience in real time. Roam’s Theater does not have a dedicated polling feature currently; it is on the product roadmap.
Deep CRM and marketing integrations. Zoom Webinars integrates natively with Salesforce, HubSpot, Marketo, and 100+ tools via Zapier. For demand generation teams that need webinar registration and attendance data flowing directly into CRM records and marketing automation sequences, Zoom’s integration depth is mature and well-documented. Roam integrates with HubSpot and Zapier natively; Salesforce is not currently a native integration.
Attendee familiarity. Billions of people have joined a Zoom call. When you send a Zoom Webinars registration link, most attendees already know exactly what will happen when they click it. For external audiences — customers, prospects, press, public — that frictionless familiarity is a real advantage.
The Theater is a stage, not a grid. Zoom Webinars presents a standard webinar view: a speaker video tile, a presentation slide, an attendee panel. Roam’s Theater is purpose-built as a performance space — a stage, a backstage, an audience in rows. When speakers walk on, they walk on with music. When the audience applauds, Roamoji reactions grow in real time as more people react simultaneously. The experience is closer to a live event than a video call. For company all-hands, town halls, and community gatherings where the experience quality is part of the value, that difference is felt.
Walk-on music. Custom music plays when each speaker takes the stage. No other webinar tool in this comparison offers this. It is a small detail that signals — to both host and audience — that this is an event, not a meeting.
True persistent backstage. Zoom’s Practice Session serves as a pre-start green room — hosts can rehearse before the webinar begins, but it is not a persistent environment accessible during the live session. Roam’s Theater has a real backstage that speakers enter before going live and can return to between segments. It functions as a coordination space throughout the event.
Your daily work environment is the event environment. Zoom Webinars is a separate product you add on top of Zoom Workplace. Before and after a webinar, your team is in different tools — Slack for chat, Zoom for calls, Calendly for scheduling. In Roam, an all-hands in the Theater and a spontaneous drop-in conversation in the virtual office are part of the same continuous environment. When the event ends, the team does not switch tools — they are already in the right place.
No separate subscription, no per-event pricing. Zoom Webinars starts at $79/month for 300 attendees — as an add-on requiring a Zoom Workplace subscription starting at $13.33/user/month. A 25-person team pays $333/month for Zoom Workplace Pro plus $79/month for the smallest webinar tier — $412/month minimum before accounting for Slack, Calendly, and other tools. Roam On-Air is included in Roam’s $19.50/user/month alongside eight other products. For a 25-person team, that is $487.50/month total — replacing Zoom Workplace, Zoom Webinars, Slack, Calendly, an AI note-taker, and a screen recorder simultaneously.
AI meeting notes for event sessions. Magic Minutes captures AI notes from Theater sessions, making it easy for internal teams to review key moments after an all-hands without watching the full recording. Zoom’s AI Companion generates transcripts and summaries for hosts too — this is a genuine feature on both sides — but Zoom’s AI is only meaningful for teams already on a paid Zoom Workplace plan, and the notes live in Zoom rather than in the team’s shared chat environment where they are immediately actionable.
Events and daily work in one place. Because On-Air runs inside Roam, the audience for a company all-hands is the same community that works together in Roam every day. There is no guest link, no external platform to introduce, no “we’re doing this in a different tool.“ The team simply walks into the Theater the same way they walk into a meeting room.

Zoom Webinars pricing requires two purchases. First, a Zoom Workplace plan — Pro starts at $13.33/user/month (annual billing). Second, the Webinars add-on: $79/month for 300 attendees, scaling to $499+/month for 1,000+ attendees (all annual billing). Webinars Plus — which adds RTMP streaming and advanced analytics — starts at $82.50/month. There is no free tier and no trial for the Webinars product.
For a 25-person remote company hosting webinars for up to 300 people:
Roam at $19.50/user/month × 25 users = $487.50/month — for virtual office, drop-in meetings, Theater (all-hands/webinars up to 10,000), AI meeting notes, enterprise messaging, meeting scheduler, screen recorder, AI agent, and mobile. No separate webinar add-on. No separate Slack. No separate Calendly.
The $75/month difference buys seven additional products.
Transformative for remote organizations as it eliminates the entire need for 30 minute Zooms.
Roam combines the functionalities of Zoom (both meeting and webinar), Slack, Calendly, and more so that everything lives in one place with seamless integration.
We host all of our All Hands meetings in Roam. Our product, research & dev teams practically live in their Roam virtual offices.
Roam is a virtual office that replicates the speed and naturalness of in-person interaction. There are shared rooms where you can “knock,“ integrated whiteboards, and a Theater with a stage and backstage for presentations.
Being able to see all your colleagues in their virtual offices, knock on a door to drop in about something quickly, and have large planned sessions with a stage, backstage, and more really adds to the experience and fills a gap I didn’t even realize existed.
At our brokerage, we are using Roam to host meetings, meet clients, host town halls and more. This has been a wonderful platform.
Leaning into Roam as our virtual office. Loving the in-person touches in our corner of the virtual world. Knocking on office doors, gathering in an auditorium, fist bumps, it’s all there.
It features private rooms, shared areas, a “theater“ for 1,000 people, a personal assistant that syncs calendars to schedule your meetings, and Magic Minutes which generates AI summaries of your meetings.
You need to host broadcasts for more than 10,000 attendees. You need RTMP streaming so your event runs simultaneously on YouTube or LinkedIn Live. Live polling is a non-negotiable feature of your webinar format. Your demand generation team requires native Salesforce integration with every registration and attendance record. Your audience is external and entirely unfamiliar with Roam — brand recognition lowers attendee friction. You are already deeply committed to Zoom Workplace and want the tightest possible native integration with your existing setup.
Your events are company all-hands, town halls, community gatherings, or hosted customer sessions where experience quality matters as much as content delivery. You want your event infrastructure and your daily team environment to be the same platform — no tool-switching, no separate subscription. You are currently paying for Zoom Workplace plus Zoom Webinars as separate line items and want to reduce total stack cost. You want walk-on music and a real stage — not a webinar grid. You use HubSpot as your CRM. Your events are under 10,000 attendees.
Does Roam On-Air require a Zoom Workplace subscription? No. On-Air is included in Roam’s platform at $19.50/user/month. There is no prerequisite subscription and no per-event add-on fee. Zoom Webinars requires an active Zoom Workplace Pro subscription ($13.33+/user/month) before you can purchase the Webinars add-on.
Can Roam On-Air handle 1,000-person company all-hands? Yes. Roam On-Air supports up to 10,000 attendees per event via Roam’s proprietary SFU infrastructure. A 1,000-person all-hands is well within capability.
Does Roam have live polls like Zoom Webinars? Not currently as a dedicated feature. Zoom Webinars has a mature native polling tool with real-time results displayed to attendees. Roam’s Theater supports Q&A, live chat, Roamoji reactions, and an audience microphone, but polling is not a dedicated feature at this time. It is on the product roadmap.
What is the difference between Zoom Webinars and Zoom Events? Zoom Webinars is designed for single-session, structured broadcast events — one stage, one audience. Zoom Events is a separate, more expensive product for multi-session virtual conferences with attendee networking, multiple session tracks, and event hubs. Both require a Zoom Workplace subscription as a prerequisite. Roam On-Air is comparable to Zoom Webinars for single-session hosted events; it does not have a dedicated multi-track conference builder equivalent to Zoom Events.
Can external attendees join a Roam On-Air event without a Roam account? Yes. Attendees receive a registration link, RSVP through the event’s branded page, and join the Theater directly from any browser. No Roam account is required for event guests.
What does Zoom Webinars Plus add over the base Webinars plan? Webinars Plus adds RTMP streaming to third-party platforms (YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn), advanced branding options on the registration page, enhanced production quality controls, and more detailed engagement analytics. It starts at $82.50/month (annual billing), still on top of a required Zoom Workplace subscription. For teams that need RTMP specifically, Webinars Plus is the relevant tier — the base Webinars plan does not include it.
